Frank Turns 80
On Saturday, May 25, 2019, Frank celebrated his 80th birthday with a dinner party and champagne toast “To the Road Ahead.” Over a hundred friends were in attendance to hear him read the “confessions” chapter of his autobiographical memoir CONFESSIONS OF A BORN-AGAIN ATHEIST: THE IMPLAUSIBLE LIVES OF A GODLESS GUY. In the book—and in the reading presented in Part Two and Part Three of this program—Frank belatedly comes out of the closet as a gay man. The book, to be published by American Atheist Press, is expected to be released late in the summer 2019. It will be available on Amazon and through American Atheists, Inc. at their website, www.atheists.org.
In Part One, Frank introduces his family and many of his guests, giving a brief explanation of the many exhibits on display of his awards, books, and family photographs. |

In Part Two, Frank tells how his sexual orientation was obvious as early as the age of four. It tells how, according to Michigan law, he was classified as a felon subject to life imprisonment—the same penalty as for first-degree murder. Part Two ends with his first attempt at suicide. |
CONFESSIONS (Conclusion) On Saturday, May 25, 2019, Frank celebrated his 80th birthday with a dinner party and champagne toast “To the Road Ahead.” Over a hundred friends were in attendance to hear him read the “confessions” chapter of his autobiographical memoir CONFESSIONS OF A BORN-AGAIN ATHEIST: THE IMPLAUSIBLE LIVES OF A GODLESS GUY. In Part Three, Frank tells of his long career as an Atheist activist, educator, scientist, media personality, family man, and fighter for the rights of women and what now would be called the LGBTQ community. He explains how these aspects of his life—and his long association with Madalyn Murray O’Hair—made it increasingly difficult for him to come out of the closet. Finally, on May 25, 2019, his mask came off. |
